Greetings,
Despite all various great information's given on the Forum, i'm still not so sure on what need to be done.
We have decided to stay 7 days in Tokyo as base city to sleep and schedule the following.
3 days visiting Tokyo
3 days visiting city out of Tokyo such as Kyoto.
we want to take the JR Rail pass to do a return trip with my family to Kyoto.
Which one is it?
Which other city can I go by using the JR Pass going to Kyoto as I would like to visit 2 additional city within 7 days considering that we are returning to Tokyo in the evening.

If I understand you correctly, if you are using Tokyo as a base city then you want to do Kyoto as a day trip? That would be extremely impractical - one way is 3 hours by bullet train and 6 hours on trains in a day really isn't worth it. It would be far better to stay in the Kansai area for a few nights. There are many good places in the area - Nara, Himeji, Kobe, Hiroshima, Kanazawa, and more.

Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box since you can't ride that train using the pass.
