I'd like to know if the PASS Central will cover the destinations from Tokyo to Kanazawa - Kyoto - Osaka and then Osaka to Hakone and back to Tokyo. Should I be buying TAKAYAMA HOKURIKU PASS or the OSAKA-TOKYO ARCH PASS?
Advice needed: Tokyo- Osaka- Kyoto- Tokyo 7 day journey
Tokyo: 2 days Osaka: 2 days Kyoto: 2 days Return to Tokyo
What is the most economical and efficient rail passes that you would recommend for such an itinerary? We will be travelling within each city as well so we want economical inner and outer city travel.
Since you are already seeing Tokyo, you can largely skip Osaka during the day. After the temples of Kyoto close down around 5PM, you can zip over to Osaka for the evening. At night the city comes alive and has some great places to see, such as Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg and Abeno Harukas Bldg are wonderful. On another evening, you could also go and see Kobe.
You also should not skip Nara either, which has some of Japan's best sights.

There is no "Osaka Tokyo arch pass". The Hokuriku Arch Pass would cover everything except Hakone.
The full JR Pass is unlimited for JR Lines, but JR does not go to all the sights of Hakone. For that, you should get a Hakone Free Pass and use it from Tokyo, Odawara, or Mishima.

It's cheaper than the JR Pass, and goes by way of Kanazawa (which is also well worth seeing). But it takes a couple of hours longer each way.
The second alternative is the japanican ticket.

It doesn't cover travel between Kansai cities, but would still come up cheaper overall.
