JR pass

edited April 2017 in About the Rail Pass
I just want to make sure the JR pass covers the following cities. Let me know if I need an additional Regional pass:

Arriving in Tokyo, staying there for 5 nights, then going to Osaka for 4 nights, then Kyoto for 4 nights, then Nagoya for 1 day then back to Tokyo, But I'm unsure if the JR pass covers all of these cities.
Total number of days in Japan= 21.

Originally I was going to get the Nozomi Shinkansen, but its not covered by JR pass, so most likely I will take the Hikari Shinkansen.

Last question: does the JR pass get me to/from Haneda Airport or Narita Airport?

You can almost make a 7 day pass pay off going Tokyo-Kansai round trip - almost but not quite. For your plans you'd need a 14 day pass and that would not pay off without adding more itinerary. All the cities you mention are easily covered.
Also, yes, you can use the monorail from Haneda or N'Ex from Narita using the pass.

For going around Tokyo, you might consider a 2 or 3 day subway pass.

Since you are already seeing Tokyo, you can largely skip Osaka during the day. After the temples of Kyoto close down around 5 PM, you can zip over to Osaka for the evening. At night the city comes alive and has some great places to see, such as Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg and Abeno Harukas Bldg are wonderful.
On another evening, you could also go and see Kobe.
You should not miss Nara during the day, either.
