About the Rail Pass
Konichiwa
May I ask for advice which JR pass I should buy if going around Nagoya and Osaka? I am quite confused how useful the regional passes will be for me for these areas. Thank you.

Konichiwa!
One of your options to travel from Nagoya to Osaka would be the Takayama-Hokuriku Pass (
http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/pass-regional/central/takayama-hokuriku-tourist-pass)
. It is not a direct train, but goes through Kanazawa (a lovely place to visit!), Kyoto and finally Osaka.
If you wanted a more direct route without having to purchase the ordinary national Japan Rail Pass, then the next option is to use the Tokaido-Sanyo JR Pass:

Happy planning!
