    Hi,
The shinkansen are fine, but you can't ride the buses with the pass. To see the Mt Fuji area, look at some of Odakyu passes.

While in Kyoto, you should make some time to see Nara also. It has some of Japan's best sights.

Hi there, I am planning a trip to visit my son in Osaka in October/November or December ... not sure which is best. We will fly into Tokyo and plan to train to Osaka. Stay for maybe a week and then go to Kyoto or couple of days and then to Tokyo for a few more days. Total 14. Should I get a 14 rail pass? Does anyone have suggestions on which are the most important things to see and do and any recommendations on where to stay in Osaka. Any help would be most appreciated.

    Hi,
First, it's better to start a new thread and not piggyback your question on someone else's.
For your plans, a 14 day pass would not pay off. If you took a day trip down to Hiroshima & Miyajima, you could make up the difference. Or a number of other trips put together.
You should definitely not miss Kyoto, Nara, and Himeji.
See the link above about great places to see.
