Will the JR Pass pay off?

Hello there. I am travelling with my wife and 2 year old daughter. I have a couple of questions.

1) Our trip is as follows:
- 21st of May in Tokyo
- 22nd from Tokyo to Takayama
- 25th from Takayama to Osaka
- 29th from Osaka to Narusawa
- 31st from Narusawa to Tokyo
- 3rd of june we fly back to Denmark.

Will the 14 Day JR Pass be the best option? I am a bit confused where and what the Pass Will cover. We plan on doing trips to Kyoto with base in Osaka. And when we're in Takayama we also plan to visit Kanazawa. We will probably just stat in Tokyo.

2) Are the trains usually fully booked? I can see that we dont have to pay for our 2 year old, only if we want guaranteed seat.

Thanks! Kind regards Charlie

    Hi,
Including using the Narita Express round trip in addition to your plans, you can barely make a 14 day pass pay off.
For Takayama, you should not miss Shirakawago also, however you must pay for the bus to go there.
For Kyoto, you also should spend at least half a day in Nara, which has some of Japan's best sights. Many are in the Nara Park area.

If you go to Narusawa, you'd need to take a train to Otsuki, then pay for a 25 minute bus ride. Since the area is in the Fuji 5 Lakes area, you should definitely see the region also. There are several discount tickets you can use:

You might still be able to catch the Fuji Shibazakura:

Please be aware to get to Narusawa from Osaka will take a minimum of 5 hours, and likely more.

Train capacity should not be an issue - it is not a peak time. With the pass, you can make advanced seat reservations for free anyway. You can make them in any JR office.

You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.

Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box since you can't ride that train using the pass.
