Need help on whether I should buy a rail pass for my trip to Japan. Would a 7 day pass be cost effective? Is it good for period starting 6/22 to 6/28 such that i can use it from the airport on 6/22 and use it on 6/28 for the trip to Takayama?
Arrive on 6/22 at 9 PM Narita, staying in Tokyo close to Shinagawa station.
6/23 - spend time in Tokyo
6/24 - side trip to Nikko and return to Tokyo
6/25 - spend time in Tokyo
6/26 - side trip to Hakone and retrun to Tokyo
6/27 - side trip to Kamakura and retrun to Tokyo
6/28 - depart Tokyo and go to Takayama
6/29 - 7/1 - stay in Takayama
7/2 - depart Takayama for Kyoto
7/3 - 7/5 - stay in Kyoto
7/6 - depart Kyoto to Osaka
7/7 - depart from KIX airport back home.

If you are wishing to purchase a 7 day Japan Rail Pass, then we would recommend you use it toward the middle of your trip, from the 26th to the 2nd of July, as this will be the most expensive part of your journey. It is possible to get the coach from Narita airport to Tokyo station for 1000 yen, and Kyoto to Osaka will only cost you around 560 yen.

My family and I will be visiting Japan on April 11-16, 2015. Since our stay is very short, we ought to buy JR pass. We want to know how many hours is Osaka to Tokyo , Tokyo to Iwati and Osaka to Kyoto. So I can plan our Itenerary.
