I will be in Japan from the 26th of April till 6th of May. And will be travelling to Kyoto and Osaka and spending the remainder of my time in Tokyo. Should I buy a 7 day or a 14 day JRP? and will I still need a Pasmo card to use the trains in Tokyo?

Whether you need a 7 or 14 day JR Pass will depend entirely on your travels. For example, if you are only travelling between the 26th and the 2nd of May, and spending the last few days in Tokyo, then 7 days is sufficient. The JR Pass validity period only commences on the date of exchange.
As most of the lines in the Tokyo metro are run privately, it is advisable to get a Pasmo card. The JR Pass will not be valid on these private lines, only the JR ones.
