We would like to go to Arashimaya bamboo forest from Kyoto. someone advise bus, can we use the JR pass to go by train? if so which station should we go? is it walkable to the bamboo forest? Arigato gozaimasu.
You can easily go there from Kyoto Stn. But to see the bamboo takes only about 20 minutes. You'll need some other sights to make it worthwhile. There is Tenryuji, the Iwatayama Monkey Park, and you should not miss the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple - one of the most whimsical places in Japan you will ever see.
