Which Rail Pass is suitable?

We are planning our Japan trip this end Oct and need help on suitable rail pass on below itinerary. Please also advise if any train is not covered in the pass for our itinerary.

Day 1 Arrive at Narita Internation airport and go to hotel at Ginza. May use metro to travel around Tokyo.
Day 2 & 3 Take train to Echigo-Yuzawa, stay 2 nights
Day 4 &5 Take train from Echigo-Yuzawa to Kurobe Unazuki , stay 2 nights
Intend to take the Kurobe Gorge railway on 1 of the day
Day 6 & 7 Return to Ginza from Kurobe Unazuki, stay 2 night.
- Intend to travel around Tokyo via Metro, such as Shibuya, Harajuku, Tsukiji etc. Maybe even to Mt Fuji area if time permits
Day 8 Ginza to Narita International airport

Appreciate your detail advise.
Thank you.

  • Hi,
I can't find anything that pays off for you. Perhaps the closest is the JR East Nagano Niigata Area Pass.

But you'll still have to pay no matter what to get to Unuzuki.
For going near Fuji, there's Hakone or the Fuji 5 Lakes area. One of the Odakyu passes can help.

If you're flexible, you might be able to arrange something. Browse these regional passes and see:

You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.

  • Hi Tenjin

    Thanks for your reply.
I would like to clarify if you mean the train to Kurobe Unazuki from Egochi Yuzawa is not covered by JR East Nagano Niigata area Pass or just the Korube railway is not covered.

  • Hi
Is there any pass that cover the Hikuriko shinkansen which goes to Kurobe Unazukionsen?

  • Hi Tenjin
Sorry for the multiple posts but i wonder if the regional passes does cover all my itinerary then wont the nation wide japan rail pass at cover them except for the Kurobe gorge railway?
    Kindly clarify.
    Thank you.

  • There are multiple railways you can take to get around. Actually, I ran the numbers again and if you only take JR, you can make a 7 day JR Pass pay off. But you can only take the bullet train up to Toyama, and then you'll have to pay for the other railway to get you to Unazuki.
