  • Hi,

The Japan Rail Pass may not actually be the best option for you, as your only long distance trip by train will be Tokyo to Kyoto. This will be the most expensive part of your itinerary, but will still be less than the price of a JR Pass. We would advise checking the train fares on www.hyperdia.com and seeing whether the rail pass would actually save you money or not.

  • Hi, i would like to seek advise/opinion too, on whether or not it is wise to get a JR pass this time... my itinerary in May 2015 will be as such:

15th arrive Haneda, fly to Sapporo - will rent car to move around
18th fly to Kansai, take JR train to Kyoto
20th JR train from Kyoto back to Osaka
21st fly from Osaka to Tokyo
22nd fly from Tokyo to Korea
    25th Fly back to Tokyo

i was wondering, to get around in the city like Tokyo airport to town, and back to airport; and other in-town travel from one point to another, what kind of pass would be good ya?

sorry it's my first time to Japan... so many questions that i dont even know what to ask...

    appreciate help ... thank you...
  • Hi,

It seems as you are doing more flying than travelling by train, the JR Pass would not be ideal for you. For getting around public transport in town, we would recommend purchasing an IC card.

  • Thank you so much for your advice... :))

may i clarify the full term for "IC card"?
  • Hi,

You can find the pasmo card usage and restrictions here:
