Hi,
We are reaching Nagoya on 12 Jan on a 7 day trip on above itinerary.
Is this the correct route for efficiency?
Which train ticket for tourist should I purchase for above route?
I saw "Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass" but is a 5 day pass while the JR pass is for 7 days? Help, I'm very confused. Should I get the right pass in advance? How should I collect them?
I tried testing to purchase the JR pass online but it needs to have Fedex to send to our country? (Prefer not to spend this money).
Pls advise me, thanks so much.

First, a 7 day JR Pass would simply not pay off for your plans. Most regional passes you can buy in Japan, but the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass is an exception and you must buy it before arriving in Japan. Like the JR Pass, you'd be sent a voucher that you take to Japan to exchange for the pass.
Your routing is fine, although you could go to Takayama before Kanazawa if you wanted.
You could also consider getting 2 three day
Shoryudo Highway Bus Tickets if you want.

For trains, the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass makes much more sense.
Thanks again.
So if I go for Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass, which train company should I be looking at? What is meant by JR line which I can take with this pass? Is Wide View Hida one of them??
Thanks.
The Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass is a JR regional pass. That means you would be using JR trains. By special arrangement, you could also use buses to go see Shirakawago if you wanted. See:

for complete info. Shirakawago only takes a few hours to see.

I have heard from a few travelers that lately Takayama is getting quite touristy. If you are concerned about this, you could also see Hida-Furukawa just up the rail line which has a lot less tourists and a similar old time Japan ambiance to it, if you wish.
