Itinerary

I am looking to purchase 2 Green JR 14 day passes
My itinerary is:
Tokyo to Takayama (Takayama to Kanazawa by bus).
Kanazawa to Kyoto
Kyoto to Hiroshima
Hiroshima to Mt Fuji (via Tokyo)
Mt Fuji to Narita.
I appreciate that some of the itinerary is not covered by the JR pass.
Taking in to account that we will be using the passes in Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima, is this viable?

Appreciate your thoughts,
Heather

  • Hi,

It is certainly doable. Although you could take the train from Takayama to Kanazawa as well if you want (unless you plan to stop off at Shirakawago along the way). The train would take an extra 45 minutes to an hour though, but the bus would cost you about an extra 3400 yen per person.
By Mt Fuji, since you say via Tokyo I presume you mean the Fuji 5 Lakes area. That leg will be extremely tiring - taking in total at least 7½ hours with multiple transfers. You might break that up with one of your days used for Tokyo. Going to Hakone instead would be easier and quicker than the 5 lakes area.
Plus, the Fuji 5 Lakes area to Narita would take over 4 hours. Not a walk in the park. I hope you completely satisfied with your stay there to make such the excruciating rides worth it.
