Japan Railway Pass

Hi,

I will be travelling to Japan with my parents from March to April period. My dad is Malaysian, but mum and I have Australian Passports. I am wondering can I purchase Japan railway pass for my father in Australia? Does the Japan Railway pass have to be purchased from the country of your passports?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,
The conditions of use are that you are a non-Japanese entering as a Temporary Visitor to Japan. JR doesn't care where the pass exchange order is bought as long as its from a licensed agent.
Unless there is some Australian law prohibiting it, I don't see why not. You could buy it from any agency in the world that will sell it to you. This site should be able to sell it to you without any problem, and most likely cheaper.
Worst case is you have to buy the pass in Japan - which you now can do, although in Japan it is about 15% more expensive.
