I am going to be an exchange student this summer in Anjo-Shi near Nagoya. My host mother said that I could travel to Kyoto on a day trip. Where else could I visit on a day trip and which train pass do you recommend that I buy? Thanks
As you will be in Japan as a student, you will not be eligible for the Japan Rail Pass. But there are other tickets available to you, such as the seishun juhachi kippu: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2362.html
From Nagoya we would really recommend visiting Shirakawa-Go and Takayama if you have the chance!
