  • Hi,
If you took all the trips you mention, and return to Osaka from Hiroshima within 7 days, you would make a 7 day JR Pass pay off.

As for trips from Osaka, Nara would be an excellent choice. Himeji is another idea. But just one day in Kyoto is severely shortchanging the place.
  • Thank you for the feedback.

We were actually thinking of doing 2 day trips to Kyoto.

Sorry, I wrote the wrong itinerary
    It should be:

Day trip from Tokyo to Yokohama
Day trip from Tokyo to kamakura

One way trip from Tokyo to Osaka

Day trip from Osaka to Kyoto
2nd day trip from Osaka to Kyoto
Day trip from Osaka to Hiroshima

Would jr pass be best bang for the money or could we purchase local passes that may make it less expensive?

Kobe or Nara as a possible day trip?
  • Hi,
As before, a 7 day pass would give you some decent savings.
If you wanted to extend your trip down in the Kansai and Chugoku Regions, then you could use the Enoshima Kamakura Free Pass for that area.

Enoshima is worth seeing too, although JR trains don't go there.

Nara makes an excellent day trip - it was also a former capital and has some of Japan's best sights. Missing the Todaiji Great Buddha would be a tragedy. Nara Park has a lot of other great places, such as Kasuga Shrine, Kofukuji Temple, the Isuien and Yoshikien Gardens, and feeding the many deer in the area.
Kobe also makes a nice day trip. Although you could see some of the sights in the evening after a day in Kyoto when the temples/shrines close down around 5 PM.
