I need some advice (as train travel in Japan is VERY overwhelming!!!) as to which pass would be the best for my short time in Japan. I arrive in Tokyo on 5 September and then travel to Osaka on 8 September and return to Tokyo on 11 September. I will be making a trip to Kyoto in the days i am staying in Osaka. Would the 7 day JR rail pass be the best value for my trip? Then just buying internal passes for the subway in Tokyo? I can use my JR pass on subways in Kyoto and Osaka i believe? Any help would be much appreciated!!!

The Japan Rail Pass would be very suitable for your particular itinerary. Please bare in mind that the pass can only be used on JR lines, and can not be used on any private railways. You can find out more about the types of trains that are valid with the JR Pass here:

For travel within the cities, we suggest purchasing a pasmo card.
