Sapporo - Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo - Hakuba - Tokyo

Hey there, Im heading to Japan for a snow trip in December.

Im looking to catch the train from Sapporo, down to Osaka, head to Kyoto, up to Tokyo, go to the snow at Hakuba, and finally back to Tokyo for the final leg. (Over 2 weeks)

Will a 2 week JR pass allow me to go to all these places?

Thanks, Shawn.

And will a 2 week JR pass be the most cost effective method of travel?

    Hi Shawn

As you are traveling across a few different regions. The best pass would be the national JR Pass available for 7, 14 or 21 days.

Depending on how many days you are planning to be in Hakuba and traveling. If you can get all your travelling and your journey to Hakuba within 7 days, it may be worth getting the 7 day pass then purchasing a one way to Tokyo. This would be slightly cheaper than a 14 day pass, however a 14 day JR Pass would be easier and gives you more flexibility.

The best thing to do would be to visit www.hyperdia.com, to find out fares and what would work out best for your trip.:

    - In search conditions, write the departure and arrival location (day and time does not really matter)
    - The search will provide you the fare for this travel (check "total price" under "take time")
    - Do the same for all your trips by train.
    - Just compare with the price of a JRPass 7, 14 or 21 days by checking the price here : http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/jr-pass

You want to be sure you can access to these trains for free with a JRPass :
    - In “search details”, unclick “Nozomi, Mizuho, Hayabusa shinkansen” and “private railway”.
    - The search result will show you all the trains you can access with a Japan Rail Pass.

    Hope that helps.

    Best regards
