12 days in Japan

First time visiting Japan. Staying in Tokyo for 6 days and Kyoto for 6 days. Arriving Narita Airport, departing from Osaka. Which pass is best?

    Hello

If you are just planning to visit Tokyo the best thing to use to explore and travel around Tokyo would be the Pasmo card, this is a pre-paid top-up card. You can find out more information here: https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/services/pasmocard.

If your only major train journey is from Tokyo to Kyoto you would be better off just getting a one way train ticket when you are in Japan. A one way will cost 13,710 yen. If you are wanting to explore the Kansai region (around Kyoto), for example Osaka and Nara, the Kansai regional pass would be a good idea this is available for 1,2,3 or 4 days. You can find more information about this pass here: https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/pass-regional/kansai/jr-kansai-area-pass/order.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply. The Kansai regional pass is a good idea. Although, it may still be cost effective to purchase the 7 day JRPass and use it to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto and then Kyoto to Hiroshima. I will be in Kyoto for 6 days and plan to travel throughout the area.

If you are planning to go to other areas during your trip, then it would probably be cheaper to purchase the national JR Pass. You can find out fares using this website, www.hyperdia.com. Then compare the fare prices with the cost of the JR Pass.
