9 Days: Fukuoka-Beppu-Hiroshima-Tokyo

Hi,

I will be traveling to Japan for 9 days in March 2016. This will be my second time in Japan :-)
I will arrive in Fukuoka and leave from Tokyo. I plan to purchase a 7-day JR pass for day 1-7 and use a 2 or 3-day subway pass in Tokyo. My preliminary itinerary is as follows:

Day 1: Fukuoka (arrive in the afternoon)
Day 2: Fukuoka (maybe half day in Nagasaki if time allows)
Day 3: Beppu (overnight in Beppu onsen resort)?
Day 4: Beppu (overnight in Beppu onsen resort)?
Day 5: Hiroshima
Day 6: Miyajima/Hiroshima
Day 7: Tokyo
Day 8: Tokyo
Day 9: Tokyo
Day 10: Depart from Tokyo Narita airport in the morning

Could you please advise which city I should be spending more time or less time in? Is staying 1 night in Beppu onsen resort enough or should I stay there for 2 nights?

Thank you so much.

Kind Regards,
Crystal

  • Hi Crystal

Itinerary looks great, and yes you'll be able to squeeze all your travel within the 7 day JR Pass.

With regards to time in Beppu, it really depends on what you want to do. There are some amazing hot springs in the area so you could try a couple during two days, and be very relaxed. However there are a couple of things other that the hot springs, like the Takasaki Monkey Park, Jigoku hells.

If hot springs are your thing then there is a more rural spa town near by called Yufuin, it's about 50-80 mins away there are a couple of public baths to check out. You can find more information here: https://www.japan-experience.com/city-beppu/yufuin_0. You can find a list of the public baths here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4750.html.

    Hope that helps
