Tokyo>Nara>Kyoto>Mt Koya>Osaka>Tokyo (Narita)

Does 14-day JR Pass make financial sense for this mid-to-late May 2015 itinerary? Tokyo > Nara > Kyoto > Mt Koya > Osaka > Tokyo (Narita). Thank you for any guidance.

  • Thank you for your question!

I'm afraid that Japan Rail Pass 14 days is not really worthwhile for your itinerary. With 14 days Pass, we have to do long itinerary like : Tokyo-Kyoto, Kyoto-HIroshima, Hiroshima-Kyoto, Kyoto-Tokyo ...
Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Mt Koya is close to each other, and you have to take another private train to go to Koya.

I recommend you to buy train ticket for every itinerary.
Please check your itinerary from: http://www.hyperdia.com/

I propose you some reduced ticket :

If you arrive at Narita, there is Narita Express reduced ticket: http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/japan-by-rail/travel-tips/nex

And then, for the trip around west Japan (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Koya), there is Kansai thru Pass which you can use for private line in this area. This pass is not already available on our website, but we will buy this pass from next month. Please keep checking our website!

For bullet train ticket from Tokyo to Nara, you can reserve only in Japan. But there is a lot of bullet train, about 8 train per hour.

If you have another question, please share with us.

    Thanks again,
