I am going to Japan on the 7th of January but I will need a Japan Rail Pass only from 1st or April to 1st of May.
Can I order a Japan Rail Pass online while already in Japan? Will the date of arrival stamped in my foreign passport be an issue since it will be prior to the date of purchase?

Yes you can purchase the JR Pass whilst you are in Japan, all you need to do it add your Japanese delivery address when ordering online. It will need to be an address such as your hotel, as someone will need to sign for it on your behalf.
The date that your passport is stamped isn't an issue. However to be eligible for the pass you must enter Japan with the status ‘Temporary Visitor‘ which is an authorisation for people visiting Japan for tourism and staying for less than 90 days.
