Hi,
We will be travelling to Japan next year for the first time.
I have heard about the JR pass and was wondering what pass would be more economical for us (adult & 16 year old).
We arrive at Narita airport and be staying for a conference in Yokohama for 7 nights.
We will then travel to Kyoto for 3 nights and exploring locally.
Then we will travel to Disneyland staying there for 3 nights, finally onto Tokyo for 3 nights exploring locally.
What would be the best option for us?

If you are staying in Yokohama for 7 days it would make sense to get a JR Pass for this time. So you can purchase a one way on the Narita Express to Yokohama. For local transport in Yokohama you can use a Pasmo card you can also use this card for local travel in Tokyo and Kyoto. The Pasmo cards are very useful, you can find more information here: https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/services/pasmocard.
For when you travel to Kyoto the price of a 7 day JR Pass costs around the same amount as a return from Tokyo to Kyoto. However it allows a lot more flexibility so if you wanted to have a day trip from Kyoto to Osaka or Nara or stop at Mt Fuji on the way to Kyoto, this is very easy with the JR Pass. If you wanted to work out all the train fare you compared to the price of a JR Pass you can use this website, www.hyperdia.com.
Hope that helps.

I am with a group of four travelling to Japan for eight (8) days in April 2016, our arrival is at 7:00 pm at Narita airport and will travel straight to Yokohama the same night (Day 1). Yokohama will be our base for all our trips in and around Japan. We only plan to buy the 7-day JR rail pass to visit Tokyo Disneyland, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka until our departure, from Yokohama to Narita airport (Day 8). Is there a reasonably priced pass that we can use to travel to or from Yokohama to the Narita airport either on the first or last day?
Thank you.
