JR pass

Hi,

I'm traveling with my husband and my mom. We will arrive in narita airport and take off from kansai for a 10 days trip.

Day 1 - arrive in narita
Day 2 - day trip to Yokohama and Kamakura
Day 3 - stay around in the central of Tokyo
Day 4 - leave Tokyo by taking shinkansen to Osaka
Day 5 - day trip to Nara
Day 6 - day trip to Kyoto, if we finish our sightseeing plan then day 7 will go to hiroshima. otherwise, day 7 will be day trip to kyoto again.
Day 8 - day trip to fukuoka
Day 9 - stay in osaka
Day 10 - leave Osaka

What JR pass do you think it works best for us? 7 days or 14 days?

    Hi,
A 7 day pass would serve you best for Oct 4-10.
For a cheap way from Narita to Tokyo, you can use the 1000 yen bus.

Plus you can see both Kamakura & Enoshima cheaply with the Enoshima Kamakura Free Pass.

You can find regular rail fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.

Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box if on a full JR Pass since you can't ride that train using the pass.

You're only giving one full day for Kyoto which is sorely shortchanging the place. I suggest you spend half a day more in Kyoto on Day 5, and the other half to see Nara Park - you will still have enough time for the highlights - Todaiji, feeding the deer, Kofukuji, Kasuga Shrine, etc. You could even add another half day in Kyoto on Day 9, since it's only 30 minutes away by train, plus Osaka is mostly a clone of Tokyo anyways. There are some good sights, but the city really comes alive at night and you can enjoy them after seeing Kyoto, like Dotonbori, Shinsekai, and the night views from atop the Abero Harukas Bldg or Umeda Sky Bldg.
It's unclear what you plan to do in Fukuoka. There are some good sights, though not as many people know about them, so you see a lot of misinformation online that there is little there. Just 20 minutes from Fukuoka City's Hakata Stn down the Sasaguri Line is the Nanzoin Temple, which is simply mind blowing yet nearly unknown even to experienced travelers. And if that isn't enough, in Fukuoka City there is also Japan's biggest wooden carved Great Buddha, at the Tochoji Temple, right next to the Gion subway station. Plus lots of old villas and traditional gardens, like Yusentei, Rakusuien, and the Ohori Koen Teien.
