Nearest ski area in Tokyo

I'm travelling to Japan in this early December with family. Please advise which nearest ski area around Tokyo? How to get there (bus or JR train)? Thank you all

    Hi Benatmadja,

There are no ski resorts within the borders of metropolitan Tokyo, but it is feasible to go skiing or snowboarding as a daytrip from Tokyo if that's what you're interested in doing. Some of the most easily accessible and most popular resorts for daytrips are located in Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, which can be reached in only 90 minutes by shinkansen (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7690.html). Therefore you can use a JR Pass to get there (the National Japan Rail Pass, JR East Nagano Niigata Area Pass and JR Tokyo Wide Pass can all be used to get there). There are also a couple of small resorts on Mount Fuji, and a highway bus would probably be the best way to access them.

    I hope this helps.
