Need advice on planning our trip

We are family of four ,would like to have the family trip to the following places
Day1(13/4): o/n at Shinjuku
Day2(14/4): Shinjuku to Hakone,purchase 2 days Hakone free pass,o/n at Hakone
Day3(15/4): Hakone to Shinjuku o/n at Shinjuku
Day4(16/4): Shinjuku to Matsumoto o/n at Matsumoto
Day5(17/4): Matsumoto to Shinano Omichi to Ogizawa station to Murodo.
o/n at Murodo
Day6(18/4): Murodo--Bijodaira--Tateyama station ( end of Alpine Route)
Take train to Toyama then to Shirakawago. O/n at Shirakawago
Day7(19/4): Shirakawago ---- Takayama. o/n at Takayama
Day8(20/4): Takayama ---Nagoya o/n at Nagoya
Day9(21/4): Nagoya---Osaka o/n at Osaka
Day10(22/4): Osaka
Day11(23/4): Osaka
Day12(24/4): depart Osaka

1. Do you think the above itineraries would be fine or please advise if you
have better option.
2. What kind of rail pass do we need for this trip.

    Hi,

    The itinerary you have chosen sounds good,but just be aware that the only way to travel from Shirakawa to Takayama is to go through Tokyo and Nagoya, which is a rather long journey (almost 6 hours). Perhaps it might be better to start at Nagoya instead of going to Matsumoto first. Then when travelling to Osaka go from Takayama station.

    As for the rail pass, it would be advisable to get the national 14 day Japan Rail Pass to cover you for all your journeys. If you have children aged 6-11 they will benefit from a discount, and any children 5 and under will travel for free.
