My stay will be at Shinagawa, Tokyo, is N'EX the easiest way to arrive Shinagawa station?
Is JR pass can be use from Shinagawa to Osaka?
I will also go to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, JR pass can be use for these location too?
Thank you

    Yes, yes, and yes.

But since you are already seeing Tokyo, you can largely skip Osaka during the day. After the temples of Kyoto close down around 5PM, you can zip over to Osaka for the evening. At night the city comes alive and has some great places to see, such as Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg and Abeno Harukas Bldg are wonderful.
Instead, I highly recommend you go see Himeji, with Japan's finest castle, plus Kokoen Garden and Mt. Shosha.
You can see previews of many places you are planning to see on:

    thank you
The main purpose to Japan end of March mostly for cherry blossom, I think Himeji is a good place to see if it is blooming by that time.
Also I am looking to go Hiroshima- Itsukushima Shrine. How long is the ride from osaka to hiroshima? is enough for one day trip?

You can see Hiroshima & Miyajima as a day trip with an early morning start. You won't see it all of course, but for Hiroshima you could fit in the Peace Park/Museum, Shukkeien Garden, castle, and Okonomiyaki-mura. There is a loop bus you can use with your pass. Itsukushima can be seen in as little as 20 minutes. The other real treats are the Daishoin Temple, and ropeway to Mt Misen if the weather is good. It's about 90 minutes from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima Stn, and 30 minutes more to Miyajimaguchi.
You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.
    http://www.hyperdia.com
Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box since you can't ride that train using the pass.
For Miyajima, please note that there are 2 ferry companies there - make sure you go to the JR one if you want to use your pass.
In case you have more time, Iwakuni is just a stone's throw beyond Miyajima, and aside from its iconic bridge and mountaintop castle, also is a great (and far less crowded) place for cherry blossoms.

Himeji Castle is one of the best places to see the blossoms, but while on average your timing is good, it's impossible to predict when the blossoms first come out until about a month before they do. You can look at several websites tracking and forecasting them, like:
    http://www.jnto.go.jp/sakura/eng/index.php
    http://sakura.weathermap.jp/
    http://www.rurubu.com/season/spring/sakura/
Try looking at the sites from time to time from about February.
Most likely you'll see some good colors, but you'll be too early for the peak.
You can see a good list of popular places to see them at:
    http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2011.html
Just remember that the better places can get extremely crowded.

    Hi,

We are flying to Japan on Feb 1 -7. And we will be staying in Shinjuku area.
we are planning to go to Tokyo -Osaka-Kyoto
we want to know if JR pass is worth it.

Feb 1-4 - Tour around Tokyo, shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Ginza, Shinagawa.

Feb 5 - Osaka Universal Studio
    Feb 6 - Kyoto
Feb 7 - in the morning flying back to Narita Airport.

What kind of pass should we be getting?

On a one way rail itinerary? No pass can help you here, unfortunately.
  • Options
Nope. It's round trip because we need to go back to Tokyo on the Feb 7 and travel back to Narita our flight is at 11:45am.

    here..

Feb 1 - arrival from Narita straight to Shinjuku
    Feb 2-4 - explore Tokyo
Feb 5 - Osaka Universal Studio
    Feb 6 - Kyoto
Feb 7 - travel back to Tokyo then go straight to Narita.

    hope this help.

Well, you just wrote "in the morning flying back to Narita Airport" which means you're catching a plane from Osaka to Tokyo.

At any rate, by including the train to/from Narita, you do make a 7 day pass pay off. You'll need to activate your pass at Narita Airport, and then you can take the Narita Express straight to Shinjuku.

There is one cheaper alternative though - the japanican discount ticket. You can take the fastest bullet train with it (the Nozomi) getting you there 30 minutes faster, plus it includes one free day of local transport. It doesn't include transport between the Kansai cities, but it isn't that much, and for getting from Narita there is the 1000 yen bus to Tokyo Stn.
    http://accessnarita.jp/en/home/
and it's only 200 yen from Tokyo Stn to Shinjuku.
    http://www.japanican.com/en/tour/detail/VJOPENTK1/
    http://www.japanican.com/en/tour/detail/VJOPENTO1/
So It's a bit more hassle, but you save more, around US$50. Your choice.
Personally, just one day in Kyoto really doesn't do the city justice. If you could fit in another half day on Feb 4th, it'd be well worth it (especially since you're traveling so far).

    Hi,

We are flying to Japan on May 5 -9. And we will be staying in Shin Osaka.

we are planning to go to Tokyo -Osaka-Kyoto
we want to know if JR pass is worth it.

May 5 - Tour around Osaka
May 6 - Kyoto and Nara Tour
Feb 7 - Castles and Temples
    *Osaka Castle
    *Osaka Castle Park
    *Shitennoji Temple
    *Hozen-ji Temple
    *Namba Parks

    May 8 - Going to Tokyo/Disneyland
May 9 - Going back to Osaka from Tokyo
    - Flight going to Manila

    Questions:

    1. Is the JR pass national (7 days) can be use within the osaka, kyoto and especially going to Tokyo (bullet train)? Is it worth?

    2. Is their a bullet train or any train that travels at night?

    Thank you

    Hi,
With your plans you can barely make a 7 day pass pay off with the round trip and going to/from KIX.
The pass is very limited in its use in the big cities. In Osaka you can use it on the JR Loop Line, and in Kyoto you can use it on the Nara Line and to go from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama, but that is about all. In Tokyo you can use it for the Yamanote Line, which goes to many popular tourist places, and on JR lines up to Disneyland.
Trains generally shut down about midnight, and resume about 5-6 AM. There are no night trains.

Hi, I have my JR pass. I am taking Tokyo to Osaka.
I see that the train is to Shin-Osaka? so I need to take one station to Osaka? (my hotel is at osaka station)
I see that Osaka doesn't have a lot JR line, Does Osaka has one-day pass for subway and how much?
Also, I will go to Kyoto, Kobe, Himeji and Hiroshima. Are these place need to take JR at Shin-Osaka?
    Thank you
  • Options
Yes, you'd need to get from Shin-Osaka to Osaka Stn. You can go by bullet train from Shin-Osaka to the other places you mention, but Kyoto and Kobe are very close so you don't need to catch a bullet train.
If you have the JR pass you can ride the Osaka Loop Line with it, which goes to some popular places. If you want a subway pass, look at the options on:
