7 day vs 14 day pass

Hi!

My family is traveling to Japan for the first time and will be staying for 10 days. We're debating whether or not we should get the 7 or 14 day pass for our stay.

Here's our itinerary so far:

4/4: Arrive in Narita
4/4-4/7: Stay in Meguro, explore surrounding area/Tokyo
4/7-4/10: Travel to Kyoto with a potential day trip to either Nara or Osaka
4/10-4/13: Travel back to Tokyo, stay near Shinjuku
4/13: Fly out of Narita

And any day trip ideas would be greatly appreciated as well! It will be me, my husband, and 1 and a half year old baby boy. :)

Thanks so much!

  • Hi,
A 14 day pass would not pay off for your plans.
A 7 day pass used Apr. 7-13 would though, for your round trip to Kansai and back, plus returning to Narita on the Narita Express.
Since you are already seeing Tokyo, you can largely skip Osaka during the day. After the temples of Kyoto close down around 5PM, you can zip over to Osaka for the evening. At night the city comes alive and has some great places to see, such as Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg and Abeno Harukas Bldg are wonderful.
On another evening, you could also go and see Kobe.

Nara is well worth seeing for a day, in addition to Kyoto.

To get from Narita into Tokyo cheaply, you could use the 1000 yen bus.
