Could we purchase our bus passes? Subway pass or taxi fares using our credit cards?

It depends...many times yes but it is case by case. The machines don't take credit cards - you need to go into the office and buy them there. Subway passes are so cheap it would be a waste to use your credit card with foreign exchange fees, etc.
Many urban taxis take credit cards but not all. The ones that do have a sticker on their window indicating that.
