From Kyoto to Tokyo and Mt. Fuji

Hi, my husband and I will go to Japan this July. We have 2 options: (1) travel from Kyoto to mount Fuji and them from Mount Fuji to Tokyo; or (2) travel from Kyoto to Tokyo and then to Mt. Fuji and from Fuji back to Tokyo. Which one will be more convenient? Is there JR pass from Kyoto to Mt. Fuji or Tokyo or not? Where can I find out the JR pass time table?
Thank you

    Hello, Elly!

If you will be using a JR Pass, the option that makes the best use of it involves approaching the Mt. Fuji areas from Tokyo, not Kyoto.

Regardless, JR does not actually reach the Five Lakes area, so the JR Pass does not cover you for the entire journey, but only up to a certain point. So the answer would be "no, there is no JR Pass to Mt. Fuji".

You can find more information on your options to access to Mt. Fuji here http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6905.html?aFROM=2158_6900

    Hi,
You first need to decide by the Mt Fuji area if you will be going to the Hakone area or the Fuji 5 Lakes area. If you mean climbing Mt Fuji, that is a different story.
To go to Hakone from Kyoto is possible - take the bullet train from Kyoto and get off at Mishima Stn., then to save money, buy a Hakone Free Pass.

After seeing the area, return but go to Odawara Stn., then catch the next bullet train into Tokyo. The Hakone Loop Course

is a common way to see the area.

For the Fuji 5 Lakes area, it is far easier from Tokyo.
Both areas can be seen without rushing in a full day, provided you get a fairly early start.
