Travelling to Japan with our 13 year old grandaughter .Her first trip overseas ,our third trip to Japan
Wondering if we should get 14 day pass or just pay fare for trip from Osaka, Kansai to Kyoto station ( we would have to pay for trip Tokyo to Narita also ) and commence 7 day JR pass when we leave Kyoto on 3/10
Itinerary
29 / 9 Arriving in Osaka : Kansai .travel to Kyoto
30/9, 1/10, 2/10 Stay in Kyoto
3/10 travel to Kanazawa
4/10, 5/10/6/10 stay in Kanazawa (maybe to Takayama)
7/10 travel to Tokyo
8/10, 9/10 ,10/10 stay in Tokyo
11/10 travel to Narita to fly back to Australia

You should consider the Hokuriku Arch Pass.

It does almost everything you want. For a one way trip like yours, it's very hard to make a 7 day JR Pass pay off without a lot of side trips.
If you want to use a Tokyo subway, you might consider a 2 or 3 day subway pass.

Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box if on a JR Pass since you can't ride that train using the pass.
