What kind of JR pass should I buy?

Hi, I plan to visit Japan next April and just wonder which kind of JR pass is suit for me? I will arrive in Narita airport and go to Gotemba station directly and stay there for 3 nights then go back to Tokyo for 4 nights then go to Kyoto for one week then go Osaka 2 or 3 nights then go back Tokyo Narita airport for leaving. The total days would be 17 days, so shall I have a east JR pass for first 5 days and a national JR 14 days pass for the rest? many thanks!

  • Hi Rosamiracle,

I can propose you several solutions.

    1. 14 days Pass
Unfortunately you can't use East Pass to go to Gotemba. But with National pass you can. The problem is you can't use your pass at the end of your stay. So you have to buy additional ticket. But in the end I think it will cost almost the same price as 21 days Pass...

    2. 21 days Pass
I think it costs more than what you will use, but you have a great possibility to visit anywhere you want in Japan during your stay. You can also modify your itinerary with this pass. You don't need to buy your tiket everytime.

    3. Buy your ticket everytime
It's a little complicated to organize.
You can organize your itinerary by train on this website: http://www.hyperdia.com/

And then, there are some reduces tickets,
    Narita-Tokyo (just one way) : http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/japan-by-rail/travel-tips/nex

    I hope it helps you.
