Should I buy JR pass??

Hi, I will be traveling on Nagoya-Gero-Takayama-Shirakawago-Kanazawa route between 1-8/12/2014. I wonder if buying a JR pass will suit my traveling itinerary. I will be taking Limited Express Wide View Hida on Nagoya-Gero-Takayama route, Nohi Bus between Takayama-Shirakawa go-Kanazawa and lastly Kanazawa-Nagoya on Limited express Wide View Shirasagi. Does JR pass covers all the routes (train & bus) that I am taking. Or do you have any suggestions on trains/buses covered by JR pass for my itinerary?

Hi Namesee, thank you for your question.

For your itinerary, Japan Central Pass can cover all of your itineraries.
But this pass is just for 5 days...

If you don't use this pass : it costs almost 16000yen for your itinerary.
I don't know how many days you will stay for every city, but the itinerary from Nagoya to Gero is more cheaper than from Kanazawa to Nagoya. So maybe you can use your pass when you take the bus.

Or, you can take two passes for 10 days. Like this, it will cost a little expensive, but you can do any itinerary you want in this region. You can add itinerary.

Please check more information about Central Pass here:

Hi, thank you for your reply and information. My itinerary is as follows :-
1/12 :Arrival Central Japan International Airport. Will stay in Nagoya for 2 nights
    3/12 : Nagoya-Gero (1 night)
    4/12 : Gero-Takayama (1 night)
    5/12 : Takayama-Shirakawa go (1 night)
    6/12 : Shirakawa go-Kanazawa (2 nights)
    8/12 : Kanazawa-Central Japan International Airport.

Just to confirm on my understanding, I have questions as per below:

    1. If I am buying the Japan Central Pass for 5 days, starting to use the pass from 4/12 onwards is a good choice? If so, can I exchange my voucher at Nagoya station on my arrival date but to begin using the pass only on 4/12?

    2. Can the pass cover Meitetsu MuSky train?

    3. Can the pass cover subway lines in Takayama?

    4. Can the pass cover subway lines in Kanazawa?

    5. I had made reservations with Nohi bus for my Takayama-Shirakawa go-Kanazawa route. Can I still use the pass for exchange of tickets? If so, how can I do it?

    6. With my itinerary and routes, does it mean that I can travel on reserved seats without paying extra using the JR pass?

Hi, thank you for your detail information.

    1. Your itinerary exceed 5 days and the most expensive itinerary is from Kanazawa to Nagoya. So I recommend you to use your pass from December 5th.

If you would like take the cheapest way from Nagoya to Gero, there is bus line, and it costs only 3100 yen. http://www.gero-spa.or.jp/bas/bus2.htm
With this bus, you can arrive directly at Gero Onsen.

    2. Meitetsu line is private train. You can't use the pass.

3.There is no subway line in Takayama.

    4. There is no subway line in Kanazawa.

    5. Takayama pass included Nohi bus Ticket. Some buses need reservation, but you can also take the bus non-reservation.
