I arrive in Tokyo and am in Japan for 10days and want to do a roundtrip from Tokyo to Kyoto to Itogawa to Hakuba (7days skiing) back to Tokyo to fly out. What is the best pass for this? Thank you!
The only pass that would cover all these areas would be the national JR Pass that is available for 7, 14 or 21 days.
The cost of the journeys (from www.hyperdia.com) above would be the following:
Tokyo - Kyoto 13,400 yen Kyoto - Itoigawa 10,500 yen Itoigawa - Hakuba 2,110 yen Hakuba - Tokyo 11,860 yen
The JR Pass will also cover travel from Haneda and Narita airports. You could get a 7 day JR Pass then pay for the journey back to Tokyo from Hakuba. This would work out slightly cheaper than paying for separate tickets or a 14 day JR Pass.
