Hi
We are planning a 7-day post cruise to the following areas to catch the Autumn colours (Oct 30th to Nov 5th).
Day 1 – leave Yokohama cruise terminal for Toyama (stay 2 days in Toyama)
Day 2 – do Kurobe Gorge
Day 3 – leave Toyama to Takayama (stay 2 days in Takayama)
Day 4 – do day trip to Shirakawago
Day 5 – leave Takayama to Kanazawa (stay 2 days in Kanazawa)
Day 7 – leave Kanazawa for Narita Airport
Would appreciate it if you could let us know which would be the best rail pass to get.
Thanks so much.

I would get the 7-day full JR Pass. But for Day 4, instead of doing Shirakawago as a day trip (it only takes a couple hours to see - be sure not to miss the village overlook as well), I'd go on to Kanazawa directly from Shirakawago. Shirakawago sits between Kanazawa and Takayama, and you'd be wasting a lot of time if you backtracked to Takayama. Also please note there is no rail access to Shirakawago - you have to pay for the bus there, and it is not covered by the JR Pass.
For Kanazawa, no matter what, do not miss the gorgeous Kenrokuen Garden.

You can check on train info on Hyperdia - you can see regular fares, routes, and schedules.

Under "More Options", with a full JR pass, be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box since you can't ride that train using the pass.

Much appreciated.
