Need advice on JR pass

I’ll be travelling to Japan next April 2015 for an estimate of 20 days. My itineraries are as follow:
Day 1: Arrive to Tokyo – Narita airport
Day 2,3,4 – Explore Tokyo
Day 5 – Tokyo – Nikko (1 day trip)
Day 6 – Tokyo – Kamakura (1 day trip)
Day 7 – Tokyo – Fuji Five Lakes (1 day trip)
Day 8 – Tokyo to Takayama
Day 9 – Explore Takayama
Day 10 – 1 day trip to Shirakawa-go
Day 11- 1 day trip to Kanazawa
Day 12 – Takayama to Kyoto
Day 13 -15 – explore Kyoto
Day 16 – 1 day trip to Nara
Day 17 – 1 day trip to Mount Koya
Day 18 – 1 day trip to Osaka
Day 19 – 1 day trip to Miyajima
Day 20 – to Tokyo – Narita airport
Please advise will it be more economical for me to buy 21 day JR national pass for my trip? Or regional pass?
Any advice to improve on my itineraries ?
Thanks so much for your help.
Regards

    Hello

It looks like a great itinerary, you're fitting quite a lot in. As you are crossing over quite a few of the regions during your trip, and wanting to use the Narita Express I would recommend the 21 day pass.

The regional passes are great if you are wanting to explore a certain area, but not if you are travelling the whole country it can sometimes work out more expensive.

    Hope that helps.

    Best regards
