11 days in Japan

Dec 23 - arrive in Tokyo

Dec 25 - Mt Fuji

Dec 26 - to Nagano to see Snow Monkey

Dec 28 - to Koyto

Dec 30 - to Osaka

Jan 3 - leave Japan

Is 7 days JR Pass worth it. Looking to start using it on Dec 25 - Dec 30. We are taking tours to Mt. Fuji and have an option to take bullet train back to Tokyo Station. The bus should arrive at Odawara Station at 6:30pm. Is there anything to do around Odawara Station? What JR rail schedule for Odawara Station to return back to Tokyo.

I also has a tour that start at Nagano at 9:30am on Dec 26. What JR rail and schedule that I need to catch in order to get to Nagano by 9:30am for the tour to start from Tokyo Station.

How far Ritz Carlton to Tokyo Station?

Comments

  • If you leave Tokyo, visit Nagano, go down to Kansai and return to Tokyo within 7 days, then a 7 day pass definitely pays off.

You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.

The Ritz Carlton is about 15 min by subway from Tokyo Station with a needed transfer at Kasumigaseki.

  • Do you think I need reserved seating for going to Nagano and return to Tokyo? It is Dec 26.
  • It depends on the type of train you take. The Kagayaki bullet trains require seat reservations (which are free with the rail pass) but others do not. You certainly don't need any because it's Dec 26 - it's just another weekday in Japan. But if you want a window seat for example, why not? It's a free benefit.
  • Dear MARIAYIP,

Following on Tenjin's suggestion about Hyperdia, it is indeed a very convenient way to calculate if a Japan Rail Pass is worth buying in your case and to know which length is most cost-effective for your travel.

    Please visit hyperdia.com:

    - In search conditions, write the departure and arrival location (day and time does not really matter)
    - The search will provide you the fare for this travel (check "total price" under "take time")
    - Do the same for all your trips by train.
    - Just compare with the price of a Japan Rail Pass 7, 14 or 21 days by checking the price here : http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/jr-pass

You want to be sure you can access to the trains for free with a Japan Rail Pass :
    - In “search details”, unclick “Nozomi, Mizuho, Hayabusa Shinkansen” and “private railway”.
    - The search result will show you all the trains you can access with a Japan Rail Pass.

    Hope this helps,

    Best,
