Our itinerary is :
Day 1 fly from Narita to Sapporo - train carport to city
Day 2 around Sapporo - subway I want to see the NIKKA factory.
Day 3 day trip by train to Otaru
Day 4 train to Hokodate
Day 5 find a good osen train to it
Day 6 train to Tokyo
Day 7 around Tokyo
Day 8 find an osen travel by train
Day 9 around Train to somewhere/around Tokyo
Day 10 train to Narita
We though we would purchase the train tkt from Sapporo airport to city and a pass that give a round trip to Otaru and subway.
Then a 7 day pass to commence on day 4.
Is there a better option for the Hokkiado section

A 7 day rail pass would not pay off by only going from Hakodate to Tokyo. I suggest you consider getting a JR East South Hokkaido Rail Pass. It allows 6 days of travel (non-consecutive) within a 14 day period.
