travel Tokyo, Kyoto Hiroshima

We're going to Japan in July. We will be in Tokyo Kyoto and Hiroshima and so on to Korea? What is best to do? First Tokyo then take a train to Hiroshima and back to Kyoto and take flight from Osaka to Seoul? Or travel the same day we get to Tokyo, take the train to Hiroshima, back to Kyto and then a few days Tokyo and fly from Tokyo to Seoul. Is rail pass the best buying or individual tickets? Is there any possibility from Hiroshima to Seoul instead to return to Tokyo.

  • Yes, you can fly from Hiroshima to Seoul - there are 2 airlines, Air Seoul and Asiana.

But one way from Tokyo to Kansai to Hiroshima does not make a 7 day rail pass pay off.

    Hi,
Well with that amount of time, you could certainly add Kyoto, and 3-4 days in Tokyo is quite enough IMHO. You could also see Hiroshima & Miyajima in a day with an early morning start, and you should not miss Nara either. So I would choose your 2nd plan, but for July 18 I would go visit Nara. In the evening, go to Hiroshima, then on the 19th see the best of Hiroshima (Peace Park/museum, castle, Shukkeien Garden, Okonoyaki-mura, and Mitakidera Temple) and then in the early afternoon go to Miyajima.
Aside from the Itsukushima Shrine with the giant "floating" torii, the Daishoin Temple is also a must-see place. There are several other pagodas and temples, and climbing Mt. Misen offers a fantastic view over the island and whole area if the weather is good.
And if you still had a bit of time, just beyond Miyajima is Iwakuni, which is another picturesque place with its iconic bridge and mountaintop castle.
