According to the JR pass Guide, pass holders can get a discount at JR Group Hotels.
However, I was unable to find out how to get a discount.
Nowhere in the Guide does it provide a discount code and the JR Group Hotel site doesn't describe how to get the discount.
Does anyone know how to get the discount?
Do you show your rail pass at the hotel and the discount is applied at that time?
Thanks.

You just show your pass at the hotel check-in. But honestly, there are much cheaper hotels that are perfectly satisfying in most places.
Do you have any suggestions for Kagoshima? Any with onsen's?
Not too far from the jetfoil port (as we will be heading to Yakushima).
Thanks, Alison
You might try looking here:

Ibusuki is another option. I've never left from there, but as I understand it, there is one ferry departure daily for Yakushima from there (8:30 AM, 1 hr 15 min ride; return time 3:40 PM til Mar 10, then from Mar. 11th - 5 PM), and you might like the steam sand baths.

Have you been to Yakushima?
Do you know if the Jetfoil goes to both the Miyanoura and Anbo Ports?
We are staying for only 2 nights and weren't sure which location would be best to stay near.
We are particularly interested in taking the hike to the very old cedars so didn't know if it was best to stay in Miyanoura and then figure out which bus goes into the area for the hike.

I've made plans to go myself but have not had the chance to go yet. For the jetfoils, some go to one and some to the other. Getting around between them is not hard. If your interest is the cedars then I suggest you stay around Anbo. The hike is a sunrise to sunset trip, and the island gets some of the heaviest rainfall in the country, so you'll likely need some raincoats and waterproof gear. It rains worse in winter and less in summer (but still once a day).
