Tokyo Wide Pass

Hello!

In my previous post, I entertained the JRPAss on our 6-day vacation to Tokyo. I heed your suggestion Tenjin re: ill advise if we travel to Hiroshima within 1 day. Thank you for your inputs.

By the way we are staying in Shibuya.

Instead of the JR Pass, im considering the Tokyo Wide Pass (TWP). But its only good for 3 days right? Please assist me on the following:

1. Can i use the TWP from Narita Airport to Shibuya Station? What train?

2. When is the start and end of the card's 3-day use? If we start using the TWP on October 31, 2016 at 11:30AM? Do we need to buy 2 TWP for the dates of our vacation?

3. Can we use the TWP to Disney Sea from Shibuya? To Kawaguchiko from Shibuya and back?

4. What about Shinkansen from Shibuya? Any destination that you can recommend where we can travel thru the bullet train from Shibuya using the TWP?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Edman

  • Hello again!

How about the Pasmo or Suica Card? Are these unlimited ride passes too for a certain number of days? How much will this cost? What train can I use these cards?

    Thank you.
  • Hi Edman_Absin,

The Tokyo Wide Pass is valid for 3 consecutive days. The day you start using the pass ( the time doesn't matter) counts day 1, and it is valid until 11:59pm on day 3.

Yes, the pass can be used between Narita Airport and Shibuya, Tokyo Disney Sea (Maihama Station) and Shibuya, and it also covers travel from Shibuya to Kawaguchiko.

It covers the JR East line of the Shinkansen from Tokyo to GALA Yuzawa, but not the Tokaido Shinkansen.

We recommend you check out the official Tokyo Wide Pass web page for more details including a map of the area covered: http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/tokyowidepass/

A Pasmo Card or Suica card is NOT an unlimited pass - it's a rechargeable smart card used throughout Japan for travel on trains, buses, and subways.

Similar to the Navigo pass in Paris or the Oyster card in London, the Pasmo or Suica card is very easy to use: simply tap it against the automated gates in train stations or on the reader on the bus, and the cost of your journey is automatically deducted from the amount on the card.

The card is rechargeable at any time. The Pasmo or Suica card also functions as an electronic wallet to make small purchases or to pay for services, such as station lockers.

For more info about the use and validity of these cards visit the PASMO (http://www.pasmo.co.jp/en/) and SUICA (http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/suica.html) websites.

    Best regards,

  • Just as a side note, there are no shinkansen from Shibuya. You'd need to go to Shinagawa, Tokyo Stn, or Ueno Stn, depending on your destination.
