Japan Temporary Visitor stamp with layover in Shanghai?

This may be a silly question, but I just want to make sure I can redeem the voucher for the rail pass.

I'm a US citizen travelling to Japan from the US, but I will have a layover in Shanghai first (thru Eastern China Airline). I should still be granted and get a stamp for a Temporary Visitor into Japan right even though I have a 3 hour layover in Shanghai before entering Japan?

  • Hi,
Of course you'll be given a Temporary Visitor status in Japan - unless you're arriving on some long term Japan visa.
  • Okay cool, thank you Tenjin!
  • I'm just confused because when I went to Germany from a Iceland layover (WOW Airlines), I never got a stamp from Germany but I did from Iceland. Germany didn't even check my passport when I entered the country, which was unexpected. I was worried that if I entered Japan from Shanghai, I may not get a stamp for Japan.
