Hi, we, a family of 6, bought the Takayama-Hokuriku Tourist Passes and will be staying at Takaoka for 4 nights as a base to explore the region. Please recommendation the best routes for day trips to Takayama, Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa. Does the pass cover HIDA Special Express between Toyama - Takayama-Nagoya?

The best routes for the places that you would like to visit using your pass are as follows:
Shirakawa go - From Shin-Takaoka to Shirakawa-go you can take the Kaetsuno Bus. This take about 120 mins (one way).
Kanazawa - You can take the shinkansen from Shin-Takaoka to Kanazawa this will take 14 mins. Please be aware that you cannot use the Kagayaki shinkansen train on the Hokuriku Shinkansen line, but you can use other trains.
Takayama - You can take the shinkansen to Toyama then change to the Ltd Express HIDA to Takayama. This journey take 128 mins.
