Hi ,
I'm going to visit my brother who is studying in Japan in March
So far my itinerary is
1 )Osaka - Tokyo - ( 5 days) -Matsumoto (day trip)
2)Tokyo - Osaka - (6 days) - Hiroshima ( day trip)
We are planning to buy the 7 days JR rail pass
However I'm aware that students are not eligible for the pass
Is there any student price/promotion so my brother can join me without paying so much for the transportation as i know I'm saving a lot with the JR Rail pass
I really hope there is a way for him to join me without having to pay so much.
Thank you.

You are right in saying your brother is not eligible for a JR pass due to his student status in Japan. Only those entering Japan with a temporary visitor visa may purchase and use the pass.
There are however discounted tickets available to residents in Japan, such as the seisshun 18 kippu. This will give him unlimited travel nationwide on local and JR trains for five days. The days do not have to be consecutive. To travel in March he can purchase the ticket from any JR station from February 20th to March 31st.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
