1. Is it possible to travel to Ashikaga from Tokyo, visit the flower garden, and then travel to Kanazawa for overnight accommodation in the same day? If so, what is the best train route and can it be done with JR passes?
2. We then plan to go from Kanazawa(3 nights) to Kyoto(4nights) then to Mount Fuji(2 nights) before returning to Tokyo(4nights). What type of JR pass is recommended and for how long?
3. Is the above itinerary even a feasible one? If not, is there better route recommended?
Will appreciate any comments or recommendations. Thank you.

You can see regular rail fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.

Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box if on the JR Pass since you can't ride that train using the JR pass.
For your trip so far, you would get huge savings from a 7 day pass, but still fall short from making a 14 day pass pay off. So if you took a day trip from Tokyo or Kyoto to make up the difference, it would be worth it to get the 14 day pass. If not, just get regular fare tickets.
For the Fuji area, one of the Odakyu passes can help save money.

You may be possible to use coin lockers in the park. The new Ashikaga Flower Park Station is just in front of the park, but the route to the coin lockers are still unclear for me. JR might prepare coin lockers at their own. Takuhaibin is another possibility to consider.

This itinerary allows three hours at the park;
Tokyo 916-1054 Ashikaga Flower Park 1349-1726 Kanazawa. So visiting Ashikaga on the way to Kanazawa is not a bad idea. Just check the flower condition before you go to the park.
