Hi,
Will be going to Kansai Area from 21st Dec to 3rd Jan with my parents and then helping a friend shoot her 20th birthday in Kimono during that period of time. Since I am also a travel writer and photographer, would be nice to know lesser known areas around the region so I can capture them in images.
Here are the questions.
a) Japan Regional Rail Pass, does it include the Shinkansen service between Kyoto, Nara and Osaka? I tried to find information about this but couldn't. I might have missed it. Would be good to make it clearer.
b) To take Shinkansen do i need to get a JR national pass?
c) For shooting kimono in traditional architecture and garden settings, where would you recommend? I know Osaka is basically not the place, Kyoto is definitely in the list but where are other notable places to go with lesser tourist?

For your questions...
A) regional rail passes? Many don't cover the bullet trains, some do (there is no bullet train to Nara). You need to specify which pass. Have a look at each passes details at:

B ) Again, depends on the pass.
C) Nara and Uji come to mind.
