Hi there,
My family will be traveling to Japan this Dec ( Arrive at 7.30 am on 22 Dec and depart at 11.05am on 29 Dec).
We have a rough idea of where to go in Tokyo for this 8D7N trip. Our plan is going to Northern part of Tokyo (Nagano Prefecture) for 3D2N and back to Tokyo for 5D4N.
Please let me know if it's worth to buy 7 days JR train passes and I would love any suggestions on where we should go on out trip as well.
Thanks so much.
Regards
Jacqueline

Well first, Nagano Prefecture is not part of Tokyo at all.
And a 7 day JR Pass would not pay off for such a short distance. If you only went as far as Karuizawa, then a Tokyo Wide Pass would serve you very well.

But if you wanted to travel further, then a JR East Nagano Niigata Area Pass would be a good way to get around.

Many people going there take a trip to see the famous snow monkeys, plus Matsumoto is a popular area and Nagano City has some good sights as well.

I'd say 3-4 days are enough for Tokyo. There are some good day trips you can take as well for the rest of your time. Nikko is one very popular spot, as well as Kamakura/Enoshima, Hakone, the Fuji 5 Lakes area, Izu and Kusatsu.
