Activation of JR Pass

I am planning to buy two JR Passes for myself and my mother for April 2017 trip. My mom will arrive in Japan a few days ahead of me. My question is, is it possible that we will activate our passes once I arrive in Fukuoka (of course my mother with her passport will be there) on March 30, 2017? Or, does it have to be activated upon our respective entry to the Japan? I understand that we can choose the first day of use as long as it is within 90 days( visitors visa)? We are planning to start using it on April 2, 2017. I just want to be sure of this.Any advice is appreciated.:)

You need to activate the pass within 3 months of date of issue. It doesn't have to be when you enter the country. When you exchange your voucher for the pass, you can choose a future date within 30 days to start using the pass.

Fukuoka is a nice city also and while many just use it as a starting point, it has many good places that most people are just unaware of.

One of the places you should not miss is the Nanzoin Temple, which is one of the best in the country yet unknown to the outside world.
