I am looking into getting a 14 day rail pass for my visit in Japan. 6 nights in Tokyo and 6 in Osaka.
My train trips that i KNOW that i will do are the following:
N'EX to and from Narita Airport
Shinkansen to and from Osaka.
Seeing that my hotel will be very close to the Yamanote line in Tokyo i'll probably ride that a lot.
When i am both in Tokyo and Osaka i plan on doing some day trips, this might vary depending on my mood and what i feel like doing when i'm there.
That means i might go to Kyoto and maybe Hiroshima from Osaka and possibly a day drip to Mount Takao from Tokyo.
Am i right in thinking it will pay off after all? I have also had a look at Hyperdia which is a fantastic tool which also made me debate on wether i should get a green car pass or not since i like a bit of comfort. (and also space for luggage on shinkansen!)

It sounds like you will be doing quite a bit of travelling! The Japan Rail Pass would pay off for your trip, as you are making many long distance travels that would cost quite a bit if you did not have the pass.
Enjoy your travels!
Kind regards,
