Hi,
Can anyone confirm that to get from Tokyo to Hakuba, we can travel on the Nagano Shinkansen, then travel to Matsumoto station, then head into Hakuba? Google maps says the is the fastest route. Can we do this on the JR East Pass?
We do not want to catch a bus from Nagagno to Hakuba, but we want to catch the bullet train from Toyko to Nagagno.
Thanks

To get to Hakuba to Tokyo, you can take the Hakutaka Shinkansen to Itoigawa, then change to the JR Oito Line to Minami Otari. From Minami Otari to Hakuba take the Lt Exp Azusa. This journey from Tokyo station takes 225 minutes. You can find the route and schedule using this website www.hyperdia.com.
If you want to travel via Matsumoto, you will need to travel from Shinjuku. From here take the JR Exp Azusa 13 to Matsumoto. Then from Matsumoto take the JR Oito Line to Shinano-Omachi then change to another JR Oito train to Hakuba. The journey from Shinjuku should take 288 minutes.
Hope that helps.
